COMPQ Nasdaq Intraday Chart "Flash Freeze"

The Nasdaq trading debacle on 8/22/13 is dubbed the "Flash Freeze." The finger-pointing begins with Nasdaq CEO Greifield blaming the event on a connectivity issue with NYSE Arca, without specifically mentioning Arca. The early forensics show that trading problems were occurring shortly after 10 AM EST, about 10:19 AM. AAPL stock broke the 500 level to the downside minutes before the 12:20 PM halt. The Nasdaq reopened for trading at 3:25 PM, resulting in a 3-hour shutdown, and said all systems were operational, but ARCA reported continuing sporadic problems. The mini flash crashes, now flash freezes, technical problems and computer glitches continue with frequency testing investor confidence. The computers, algo's and robots run the show nowadays.
