Keystone's Key Events and Market Movers Week of 4/9/12

Keystone presents the following underlying market currents, sometimes subtle, sometimes turbulent, that move global markets in real time.  The key dates and times below typically correspond to market pivot points.

Key Dates and Times for the Week Ahead:

·         Monday, 4/9/12:  The European debt crisis drama continues; Greece, Portugal, Hungary, Spain and Italy all remain at risk with yields blowing out to the upside just like November-December 2011. Congress is not in session until 4/16/12, thus a market positive for next two weeks; then a market negative when they return from 4/16/12 and on. Watch China this week with CPI and GDP numbers. Now that the Fed and ECB may be on hold with quantitative easing, traders are waiting for China to step up with more triple R cuts. This action would bounce copper, commodities and the equities markets. A Bradley turn date occurs Wednesday so a window is open in the markets all this week into next for a market trend change to occur, perhaps a move back up after weakness occurs early in the week? China CPI. Traders respond to the weaker than expected Jobs Report. Chairman Bernanke speaks in the evening so traders will listen for any comments on the weak Jobs Report.
·         Tuesday, 4/10/12:  NFIB Small Business Optimism Index 7:30 AM. Wholesale Trade 10 AM. 3-Year Note Auction. Earnings: AA kicks off earnings season, ATNY, GRO, QXM, SVU, TLB-retail, TOPS.
·         Wednesday, 4/11/12: Bradley Turn Date.  Mortgage Purchase Applications 7 AM. Import and Export Prices 8:30 AM.  Oil Inventories 10:30 AM. 10-Year Note Auction 1 PM. Beige Book 2 PM. Treasury Budget 2 PM.  Earnings: TITN.
·         Thursday, 4/12/12:  International Trade, PPI (Producer Price Index) and Jobless Claims 8:30 AM.  Natty Inventories 10:30 AM. 30-Year Bond Auction 1 PM. Fed Balance Sheet and Money Supply 4:30 PM.  Earnings: FAST, GOOG-tech, JBHT-trucking, LAYN, LDK-solar, RAD-drug store.
·         Friday, 4/13/12: Friday the 13th. CPI (Consumer Price Index) 8:30 AM. Consumer Sentiment 9:55 AM. Chairman Bernanke speaks in the evening. Earnings: IGTE, JPM-bank, VTUS, WFC-bank.

·         Monday, 4/16/12: Retail Sales 8:30 AM.
·         Tuesday, 4/17/12: Housing Starts 8:30 AM.
·         Tuesday, 4/24/12:  Consumer Confidence 10 AM. FOMC Two-Day Meeting begins.
·         Wednesday, 4/25/12:  FOMC Rate Decision and Chairman Bernanke Press Conference
·         Friday, 4/27/12:  GDP. Consumer Sentiment 9:55 AM.
·         Monday, 4/30/12:  EOM.
