Keystone's Key Events and Market Movers Week of 4/16/12

Keystone presents the following underlying market currents, sometimes subtle, sometimes turbulent, that move global markets in real time.  The key dates and times below typically correspond to market pivot points.

Key Dates and Times for the Week Ahead:

·         Monday, 4/16/12:  The European debt crisis drama continues; Greece, Portugal, Hungary, Spain and Italy all remain at risk with yields blowing out to the upside just like November-December 2011. The Thursday morning auctions will impact equities markets strongly. Congress is back in session this week which is a market negative. Watch China for news on a triple R cut. This action will immediately bounce copper, commodities and the equities markets. Earnings ramp up for the first full week of releases with major companies reporting. For OpEx weeks, Monday’s tend to be bullish. A Bradley turn window opens today thru 4/30/12 for a trend change to occur in the markets (actual turn date is 4/23/12); particularly watch 4/18/12 thru 4/26/12. Empire State Mfg and Retail Sales 8:30 AM. TIC Data 9 AM. Business inventories and Housing Market Index 10 AM. Fed’s Pianalto speaks at 12:30 PM.  Fed’s Bullard speaks 3:30 PM. Earnings: C, GCI, LNCR, MAT, MTB, SCHW.
·         Tuesday, 4/17/12:  Housing Starts 8:30 AM-one of Keystone’s important monthly indicators. Industrial Production 9:15 AM. For OpEx weeks, typically a trader can go long sometime Tuesday and ride it into Wednesday since there tends to be market buoyancy during this period. Earnings: CREE, CSX, FRX, GS, INTC, IBM, ISRG, JNJ, MMR, EDU, KO, NWPX, PKG, STX, STT, SYK, URI, USG, YHOO.
·         Wednesday, 4/18/12:  Germany 2-Year Note Auction. Mortgage Purchase Applications 7 AM.  Oil Inventories 10:30 AM. Markets tend to favor the sell side moving into the new moon. Earnings: ABT, AXP, APH, BMI, BK, BLK, CLB, CBST, EBAY, HAL, LRCX, MAR, MMI, NE, PNC, PLCM, QCOM, DGX, STJ, SWK, TXT, VMW, YUM.
·         Thursday, 4/19/12:  Spain 2-Year Note and 10-Year Bond Auctions. France 2, 3 and 5-Year Note Auctions-global equity markets will react strongly. Jobless Claims 8:30 AM.  Philly Fed, Leading Indicators and Existing Home Sales 10 AM. Natty Inventories 10:30 AM. 5-Year TIPS Auction 1 PM. Fed Balance Sheet and Money Supply 4:30 PM.  Earnings: ACTG, AMD, ALK, BAC, BBT, BX, BSX, BTU, CPHD, CMG, CB, CY, DHR, DD, ETFC, EMC, FCS, FITB, FCX, GDI, IBKR, LAYN, MS, MSFT, NCR, NYT, NUE, PENN, PM, PPG, SNDK, SHW, LUV, SWFT, TZOO, UNP, VZ.
·         Friday, 4/20/12: OpEx. The way the markets move in the afternoon will typically forecast Monday’s move which tends to move in the opposite direction. New Moon overnight tonight. Earnings: AEP, GE, HON, IDXX, IR, KMB, MAN, MCD, SLB, UA.

·         Tuesday, 4/24/12: FOMC Two-Day Meeting Begins. S&P Case-Shiller HPI 9 AM. New Home Sales 10 AM-lots of focus on the real estate sector today. Consumer Confidence 10 AM.
·         Wednesday, 4/25/12:  FOMC Rate Decision and Chairman Bernanke Press Conference including Fed members forward forecasts.
·         Friday, 4/27/12:  GDP. Consumer Sentiment 9:55 AM.
·         Monday, 4/30/12:  EOM.
·         Tuesday, 5/1/12:  ISM-watch energy markets.
·         Friday, 5/4/12:  Monthly Jobs Report 8:30 AM- after the Good Friday debacle last month the jobs report is extremely important, did last month start a new leg lower for jobs, or, was it a one-month blip in the data?

  2. There can only be one KS, like Jesus like Allah! Just joking. But I think you underestimated KS. After all, dude did go to MIT right? Whatever the case, I'm just very grateful for the free info provided by his website. Thanks for all that you do KS for us amateur traders trying to scrap some coin for BLD (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

  3. Hello Alex and Steve, Keystone says its more fun for the answer to remain a mystery. Besides, Toto is no where in sight to pull back the curtain. Enjoy the fun while it continues. It is always best, however, to learn how to catch and cook your own fish dinner than to simply be handed a fish dinner. The many tools and chart techniques presented here can serve as your fishing poles and lures.
