RUT Small Caps 5-Minute Chart Flash Spike and Flash Crash New All-Time Highs

The news media is mum about the Flash Spike and Flash Crash in the RUT yesterday, 12/23/13. The RUT popped 6% at the opening bell and then collapsed 6% within the first 15 minutes of trading. This is an astounding move, covering nearly 12% in a manner of minutes, for a major market index!!! RUT finishes the day printing a new all-time closing high at 1157.22 and new all-time intraday high at 1213.49.

To place the erratic move into perspective, the price move would be equivalent to the SPX popping to 1940 and then dropping back down to 1830 in a few minutes time, or, the Dow Industrials popping 1,000 points to 17300, then immediately dropping back down under 16300.
