2013 NYSE Holiday Schedule

On the verge of a three-day holiday weekend, this is a great time to review the holiday schedule for 2013.  Markets tend to be bullish the day or two in front of the holiday fun.

1/21/13 Martin Luther King Day
2/18/13 President's Day
3/29/13 Good Friday
5/27/13 Memorial Day
7/3/13 Early Close at 1 PM EST
7/4/13 Independence Day
9/2/13 Labor Day
11/28/13 Thanksgiving Day
11/29/13 Early Close at 1 PM EST
12/24/13 Christmas Eve Early Close 1 PM EST
12/25/13 Christmas Day
1/1/14 New Year's Day

So Monday is a day to regroup from the madness then mid-February offers the next rest. Independence Day is a Thursday making one wonder how many will have the blue flu come Friday morning, July 5th? The Friday after Thanksgiving is the typical shortened session. Christmas is Wednesday this year so an early close occurs on Tuesday, Christmas Eve.

Today is an opex day ... what are the prospects for today considering that this market although fully goosed, should close above the 5 years high for a proper good signal for another round of "joe sixpackers" the following weeks ....

  2. Probably will see increased volume late day. Holiday is Monday so markets tend to float up, also tend to float up on Friday afternoons. However, the hourly and minute charts are set up negatively and considering the big move up some softness is not unreasonable.
