OVER 400K AMERICANS DEAD FROM CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) IN LESS THAN 1 YEAR; 407K AMERICANS DEAD AS OF 1/16/21

OVER 400K AMERICANS DIE FROM COVID-19 DURING THE LAST YEAR. 402,693 AMERICANS ARE DEAD FROM CORONAVIRUS. May the Lord Have Mercy on Their Souls.

The Worldometer chart shows 403K dead Americans which is 1 in every 819 citizens dead from covid over the last year. The Johns-Hopkins and Worldometer data sets track each other nicely with the J-H data a couple days or so behind so look for Johns-Hopkins to exceed 400K deaths at anytime. The J-H data is reported on CNN cable news. That is enough dead bodies to fill the seats of seven NFL (American football) stadiums. It is seven Vietnam's. It is 10 times the amount of yearly flu deaths. 403K dead souls is the equivalent to the population of a mid-size city such as Tulsa, Oklahoma, or Tampa, Florida, rubbed off the face of the map. 403K deaths are more than the populations of New Orleans, Louisiana, St Louis, Missouri, or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The number is hard to comprehend.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is the go-to site for the latest death projections. The current projection is for 567K dead Americans by 5/1/21. There are 403K Americans dead now. People are becoming numb to the numbers. As Joseph Stalin said in 1923, "One death is a tragedy, a million deaths a statistic." IHME says the deaths will be at 450K on 2/1/21 which is a slight improvement. Take wins where you can get them. The United States may hit 100K dead per month in January. Hope not.

24.1 Americans are or have been infected with covid; 7.3%. 14.2 million Americans have recovered; 58.9%. There are 94.6 million people infected with covid around the world. Over 2 million are dead and 67.5 million have recovered.

Here are the US hospitalizations as per the COVID Tracking Project. There are 127K people hospitalized with covid in the US. This is slightly off the 132,474 hospitalizations on 1/6/21 the highest ever.

Here is the US vaccinations map as per Bloomberg. 13 million Americans have been vaccinated about 1.5 million of these have received the second shot so things are improving, slowly. HHS Secretary Azar resigns after the mea culpa that there are no vaccine doses remaining in storage. 31.2 million vaccine doses are distributed across the United States so only 42% of the vaccine doses are used so far and we are at MLK Day. We need to get those doses in arms. Chop chop. Keystone has been practicing giving shots to oranges, and boasted about his new skill at the local clinic, hoping that he could lend a hand, but the doctors told him to get lost and 'don't call us, we'll call you'.

Hopefully, the medical community and pharmacists can ramp up the vaccination game. Dedicated medical teams working at a pop-up style convenient location would be very effective in distributing the vaccines. One of the headaches is that folks have to stick around for 15 or 20 minutes to make sure there are no adverse reactions. This creates bottleneck areas but it is manageable. The major issue is that each vaccination location needs a skilled doctor or nurse capable of handling an adverse medical situation but they are of course needed at the hospitals that are overflowing with sick covid patients. Same goes for the medics that are married to their ambulances these days with sirens echoing through city streets all through the night.

The Johns-Hopkins data is up to 395,379 dead Americans and this is the data reported on CNN cable news. MSNBC is reporting 394,266 dead. The IHME data reports 388K dead Americans which is an estimate since the data lags by a few days. The New York Times reports 394,321 deaths.
